Investigation on Failure Behaviors and Optimization of Composite Ω Joint

In this article, failure behaviors and optimization of integrated composite Ω joint under tension load were investigated with experiment and numerical simulation methods. Tensile tests of Ω joints with three glue heights (30mm,40mm and 50mm) are carried out with two constraint types. The experimental results show that damage behavior of test pieces appears as the delamination of 7t reinforcement. Compared with 40mm and 50mm glue height, 30mm height is a better choice. Fixed on 71 reinforcement can prevent joint from large deformation and prevent delamination to a great extent when contrasted on skin laminates, then have higher tensile strength. Given Ω joint is simulated with ABAQUS Code, and stress distribution and damage evolution are acquired. Simulation results are consistent with test results. Failure process of Ω joint is acquired according to the corresponding criterion of adhesive and composite laminate, and the result of analysis coincides with the experimental result generally.
