Thrust Requirements for RBCC Powered Hypersonic Cruise Vehicles

System design and prototype design for RBCC are both undertaken in NWPU, with the objects for hypersonic cruise vehicle in near space and TSTO vehicle accessing the space. Factors affecting the RBCC engine performance were studied, suggesting the difference between RBCC engine design and traditional rocket engine design. Thrust requirements estimation model was developed with the reference trajectory and aerodynamics performance, proposing RBCC system design principles under the consideration of analytical performance upper bound and performance requirements. Air-launched cruise vehicle powered by RBCC was studied, launching at the altitude of 10km and Mach number of 0. 8. The result shows that the dimension of RBCC engine is about 20~25 times the reference area.
