Monograph Collection Development in an Age of Uncertainty:The University of Haifa Library Experience
To present models of monograph collection development used in the University of Haifa Library. Although the librarys collection development policy is committed to supporting the research and teaching programs of the university as well as the surrounding community of Haifa residents, changing financial realities and publication formats have required strategic decisions for implementation of the policy. The evolution and rationale of various collection development practices over the years, such as liaison programs, approval plans and patron-initiated acquisitions of electronic books, are discussed. The difficulty of strategic planning for collection development in the current era of dwindling financial resources and changing publication practices are realities with which the University of Haifa Library, and many other libraries, have to cope.
