How Far is China from Managed Care?-A Simple Diagnosis of Health Benefit Administration in China with a Case Study of Xinxiang
Managed care is a variety of techniques intended to reduce the cost of providing health benefits and improve the quality of care, which is especially suitable for the health benefit administrators in China to use to control the increasing overutilization and hence cost problem of the healthcare system. Through investigation in several cities with Healthcare Administration Association of America, the author finds that the biggest obstacles for China to implement managed care are insufficient data collection and analysis and the lack of Evidence Based Medicine guidelines. The case in Xinxiang proves that by improving data collection and analysis, the administrators can take a big step toward managed care. To go further, the administrators need more integrated IT system, more practical EBM guidelines and powerful policy support.
