Non-isothermal Kinetics Analysis of FeS
The spontaneous combustion accidents of crude oil tanks, which induced by ferrous sulfide, have been receiving great attention. The thermal analysis experiments of FeS samples were carried out at the different heating rates of 2, 5, 8, 10 and 15 V-min-1. It was shown that the essence of the oxidative decomposition about FeS in air was a process containing physical adsorption, chemical adsorption and chemical reaction of ferrous sulfide with the oxygen. Based on the experiments data, the model-fitting and model-free methods were used to study the kinetic mechanism of FeS samples. It was concluded that the calculated results of the model-fitting were inconsistent and irresponsible. The apparent activated energy of FeS samples was calculated through the model-free method. The average value E was 135.81 kJ·mol-1. Based on the equation of Satava-Sestak, the kinetic parameters of FeS samples thermal decomposition were determined, Es=148.43 kJmol-1 and As=3.82×109 s-1. The reaction obeyed the nucleation and nucleus growth (m=2): g(a)= -ln(1-a)1/2.
