Effectiveness on Employment Due to the Technology Progress in China
This paper researches on the relationship between technology progress and employment. We review the literatures on this research area both in home and on abroad. Using the robust regression model, we analyze the relationship between the registered unemployment rate in urban and the technology progress; the relationship between the employment growth rate in urban and the technology progress; the relationship between the employment growth rate in rural area and the technology progress, respectively. We find that the technology progress hasnt promoted the employment significantly and reduced the unemployment rate in overall from 1979-2007 in China. However, the evidence shows that the technology progress has increased the employment significantly in the rural area. Therefore, Chinese government should develop the labor-intensive industries further, and develop the technology-intensive industry selectively in the current period. The High-tech and innovative talents are also needed inr the future.
