Agricultural productivity Dynamics: 1995-2008

This paper uses the method of Malmquist index of non-parametric DEA, empirically analysis the total factor productivity and the changes in Chinese agriculture from two aspects over the period 1995-2008, one is stage analysis, and the other is the regional analysis. The results show that between 1995-2008, the TFP of agricultural average growth rate is 6.4%, mainly to the improving of the level of technological progress, meanwhile the contribution to agricultural production from technical efficiency increasing becomes prominent day by day; Technical efficiency and technological progress in different periods lead to different contributions to TFP growth of Chinese agriculture; And there are still significant differences in the agricultural growths of TFP in eastern, central and western regions.
