Empirical Analysis on Higher Education Affecting Regional Economic Development: A Case of Shandong Province
The relationship between education and economy is an important subject that has been concerned by the economics of education. As higher education is the most direct and close ties with economy, research on interaction between higher education and economy has been a hot issue in recent years. This paper analyzes it taking Shandong province for example by using empirical means of Augment Dickey-Fuller (ADF) test, co-integration test, Granger causality test and error correction model te st, etc. Research indicates that strong correlation exists between higher education and economic growth in Shandong province. The economic growth has led to increased funding for education investment and larger scale of higher education. Increased funding and investment in fixed assets also has promoted economic growth. However, the scale of the higher education is not the primary driver of economic growth.
