Subjective Measures of Economic Well-being among Older Adults in Beijing, China
Economic well-being of older adults can be measured by objective and subjective methods. Among the existing literature, few studies focused on economic well-being among Chinese older adults, let alone subjective measures. This paper examines subjective measures of economic well-being among older adults in Beijing. The sample comprised 2,002 older adults aged 60 and over living in Beijing. Data came from the 2006 Sample Survey on Aged Population in Urban/Rural (SSAPUR, 2009). Logistic regression model was adopted to identify factors affecting economic well-being of older adults. The results showed older adults who are married, some education, and better health, much older and more actual household income were more likely to report their economic well-being. The findings pointed out subjective measures of economic well-being are sufficiently robust for use in gerontological research and practice. Programs and policies should target the specific subgroup in order to improve their economic well-being.
