Application of Value Engineering in Determination of Design Scheme of Multi-storey Brick-concrete Structure Building

The stages which have the greatest impact on the project investment are the decision-making stage and the design stage. Large amount of data show that Value Engineering is most likely to be effective in decision-making and design stage of a project. To significantly enhance the value of a construction project and to obtain better economic benefit, Value Engineering study must be used in decision-making stage and the design stage, so that the functions of a construction project and its investment will match up reasonably. To enhance the value of multi-storey brick-concrete structure building during its whole life cycle, the design schemes of multi-storey brick-concrete structure building were optimized by using Value Engineering study. As a result, the decision-making and design quality had greatly improved, the investment saved, and a good economic benefits obtained. Therefore, the use of Value Engineering principles for scientific decision-making and optimizing the engineering design of a project is of great significance to the rational allocation of resources, reducing project cost and enhancing the value of projects.
