The Relationship between CO2 Emissions and Thermal Power in China--An ARDL Bounds Testing Approach
This study examines the long-ran and shout-run relationship between CO2 emissions, thermal power and income in the case of China by employing time series data of 1965-2006. We adopt the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) approach to cointegration as the estimation method. The result of ARDL presents that the Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis is not an inverted U-shaped relationship between environmental degradation and income, but an N-shaped relationship. The results of the causality test show that there is a bi-directional causal flow from CO2 emissions to thermal power generation. On the other hand, there is a unidirectional causal flow from income to CO2 emissions.
