Regional Economic Growth and Distinctive Industry Cluster: A Case Study of Salt Chemicals Cluster in Zigong City, China
The resource-rich regions should transform its economic development pattern and adjust its industrial structure, relying on the local resource endowment under the background of resource depleting. The scale effect, low-cost effect, energy-saving effect, the emission-reduction effect and the core compositeness determined by its comparative advantage will give prominence to the industrial cluster with local characteristics-the distinctive industry cluster-in the coordinated development of regional economy and the adjustment and optimization of industrial structure. The definition and the connotation of the distinctive industry cluster are further analyzed in this paper; and an econometric model is set up to research on the relationship between the distinctive industry cluster and the regional economic growth. An empirical study is carried out with the survey data of economic development and some indicators of the salt chemicals cluster of Zigong City, China from 2000 to 2009. The result shows that the indictors of number of clusters enterprises, total profits, the industrial added value, etc. are positively correlative to the regional economic growth, which highlights the important role that the distinctive industry cluster plays in the regional economic development.
