A brief introduction to Chinese Mollisols
Based on the US soil taxonomy, Molisols are soils that have a dark colored surface horizon relatively high in content of organic matter. The soils are base rich throughout and therefore are quiet fertile. Molliols characteristically form under grass in climates that have a moderate to pronounced seasonal moisture deficit. Mollisols are extensively distributed in sub -humid to semiarid areas on the Steppe of North A merica, Europe, Asia, and South America, so called four largest contiguous Mollisols area in the world. The Mollisols of Asia are mainly distributed in Northeast China. The Northeast China includes Heilongjiang province, Jilin province, Liaoning province and Hnlunbeier League of Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region. The region is located in the east altitude of 115°31 -135°05 and north latitude of 38°43 -53°33with a total area of 123. 6 x 104km2. The region is 1600 km long from the south to the north, and 1400km wide form the east to west.
