An overview of South American Mollisols:soil formation, classification, suitability and environmental challenges
Mollisols are the dark colored, humus -rich soils of high fertility as defined in Soil Taxonomy (Soils Survey Staff, 1999) and known in other soil classification systems as Chernozems (Russia, FAO), Kastanozems and Phaeozems (FAO) and Iso humosols (China). In the National Soil Classification System of Uruguay they are include en the Great Groups of Brunosols and Argisols pp. The name of Mollisols is also officially used in soil classification in Argentina.
