Sensitivity analysis of soil and plant N to management parameters using Dssat -Century model under black soil in Jilin, China

Nitrogen is an active soil nutrient affected significantly by environmental condition. Higher amounts of fertilizer N and/or lower crop residues application rate resulted in an unbalanced N dynamics in the crop -soil system in black soil zone in Jilin China during the last 30 years. This was evidenced by the fact that higher fertilizer N application rates resulted in lower fertilizer N use efficiency and increased nitrate loss by runoff, leaching and denitrification. Lower crop residue application rate lead to decreases of soil organic C & N level and hence affect crop growth in degraded soil. DSSAT v4.5 model was used to simulate maize growth and soil C & N dynamics under 2008 field and climate condition. The objective of this study was to examine the sensitivity of crop N uptake and soil C and N to crop management parameters (i. e., fertilizer N and crop residue application rates), and to find the optimum fertilizer N and crop residue application rates for high yield objective and at the same practice, maintaining soil C & N balance for black soil in sustainable agriculture.
