Theorizing the Business in the Mind Realm of the Firm

This paper seeks to expand research on one of Druckers key propositions, the management of successful businesses has a Theory of the Business (1994, hereafter TotB) through exploring a construct called here the mind realm of the entrepreneurial group in the firm. The cognitive formation process of TotB is analyzed through integrating the results from former theoretical and empirical studies in this area. The roles of past experience and reflection of the entrepreneurial group in a valid TotB are highlighted. Based on this the paper suggests how the entrepreneurial managers map out and update their TotB. This exploratory research also proposes a new area for future study --mental development of entrepreneurial managers.
