Model-based Analyses and Governance Recommendations on the Great Pacific Ocean Garbage Patch
The increasing harm of the Great Pacific Ocean Garbage Patch has aroused widespread concern of the public. In order to provide government with solutions to this problem, this paper researches into the law of the floated plastics transport along the West Coast of the U.S., considering factors like wind and ocean currents. At the same time, I consider the settlement of floated matter and re-float mechanism, using the concept of shear stress to determine the amount of floated solids and sedimentation from the floated. Besides, I set up a two-dimensional mathematical model of floated solids transport. Proved, the model can improve the accuracy of the numerical simulation for flux like water momentum and floated solids transport. On this basis, I establish multi dimensional module analysis, analyzing the economic losses caused by the garbage. Finally, the paper states governance recommendations according to the conclusions, and makes an outlook to the future Pacific Ocean.
