A Unique Approach To Multi-Factor Decision Making By Combining Hierarchical Analysis With Error Analysis

The object of this research is to enhance effectiveness, and obtain more logical output data from the multi-criteria decision-making methodology through mixing the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) with the failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA). In the analytic hierarchy process method, the parameters of interest are ranked through specific matrix vectors after compiling and defining the objectives, alternatives and weighting for each parameter by pairwise comparison. All of the many ranking methods that have been designed on the basis of mathematical logic put the emphasis on the weight of each factor. What distinguishes the order analysis method from the others is the use of quantitative rather than qualitative parameters and pairwise comparison, in which the ranking accuracy is confirmed by the analyst. In this research, we succeeded to generate a favorable combination from the two mentioned methods, and rank the criteria of FMEA within the mold of AHP, and observe that the achieved results fully conform to the actual system.
