Effective use of Audio-visual equipment and Materials in classroom teaching
An outstanding development in modern education is the increased use of supplementary devices by which the teacher through the use of more than one sensory channel helps to clarify, establish and correlate accuracy, concepts, interpretations and appreciations; increase knowledge, arouses interest and even evokes worthy emotions and enriches the imagination of children. The investigator made an attempt to study the availability of audio visual equipment and materials in the schools and their effective use in classroom teaching. The study was undertaken in twenty-one higher secondary schools of Nellore town of Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, India. Three questionnaires were used to find out the availability of audio-visual equipment and materials and their effective use in classroom teaching and a check-list was used to identify the factors hindering the effective use of audio-visual equipment and materials in classroom teaching. Besides these an identification data schedule seeking the information on the variables was also given to 105 teachers working in 21 schools of different managements. Chisquare test was followed for the study. Data shows that the position of audio visual equipment was poor. Computers, television, tape recorder, public address equipment were possessed by only 47.62 per cent of the schools. The variables like type of management of schools, age of the schools, medium of the schools and strength of the schools have no influence on the possession of the adequate or inadequate equipment in the schools. 90.4 per cent of schools have effectively used the audio visual equipment. The school administration is not taking any effort to procure and utilize the audio-visual equipment and materials in a right manner as it is difficult for the managements to meet the maintenance cost of audio-visual equipments as the schools are poor.
