An Experimental Study of the Trial-discovery Model in English Grammar Teaching in High Schools

Grammar teaching and learning is an important part in English teaching in high schools. However, there exist two kinds of practice about English grammar teaching: either applying the traditional method or neglecting grammar teaching and learning, both of which go against the ideas of the new curriculum of the high school. In search of an appropriate method to teach English grammar, the trialdiscovery model is practiced. After years of practicing, the trial-discovery English grammar teaching model is constructed. To find out whether this teaching model is more effective than the traditional grammar teaching, an experimental study of the trial-discovery model in senior English grammar teaching is carried out. After the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data collected through questionnaires, interviews and writing tests, the study reveals that the trial-discovery grammar teaching is more effective to stimulate the students interest in learning grammar, and is more helpful to improve the accuracy and complexity in English writing than the traditional grammar teaching.
