Ideational Projection and Interpersonal Projection in Thai
Projection is one of a few most general semogenic processes whereby a relationship between two sets of processes is manifested in different environment throughout the semantic and lexicogrammatical system of a language (Halliday & Matthiessen, 1999: 222-226). In terms of metafunction, projection is manifested ideationally and interpersonally. Ideational projection is construed as an aspect of the speakers experience. Interpersonal projection is enacted as an aspect of the speakers move and assessment. This paper aims to investigate ideational and interpersonal projection in news reports. Data are drawn from a corpus of news reports. In this particular research, five days news report on the latest political crisis are analysed in detail (April 10~(th)-14~(th), 2009). Thailands political crisis took place nation wide: from Pattaya, a resort city, where the 14th ASEAN summit was announced for cancellation, to central Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, where thousands of anti-government demonstrators closed Bangkoks main roads. The five days of news reports are taken from Thailands political online newspaper -Matichon. This paper will discuss various features of ideational and interpersonal projection of these news reports.
