Modeling of Multifilament Polymer Fiber Melt-Spinning
The goal of this effort is accurate simulation of multifilament fiber melt spinning, applicable for a wide range of industry-relevant material and process conditions. Our multifilament simulation is based on the flow-enhanced crystallization (FEC) approach of Shrikhande et al. 1 combined with a variant on the multifilament quench models of Dutta 2 and Zhang, et al. 3. We apply the model using material and process parameters based on the industrial-scale process described in 4, and demonstrate that the calculated quench air profile is similar to experimentally-measured results.
