Capacity of MIMO Systems based Measured Underwater Acoustic Channels
Abstract: The growing need for higher data rates poses the problem of capacity limit of underwater acoustic channels. This paper deals with the capacity of wideband multiple input multiple output (MIMO) underwater acoustic channels based on channel measurements. The measurement campaigns are described. The statistic distributions of the measured underwater acoustic channels and outage capacity results are derived from measured data. Capacity results demonstrate that the capacity strongly depends on the path gain of the Rician fading channels and the capacity gain contribution of multipath components depends on the K-factor of Rician distribution. Obvious capacity gain can be obtained from MIMO underwater acoustic channels compared with single input single output underwater acoustic channels, and with MIMO configuration, delay spread channels may provide advantages over single path channels.
