Study on Pulse Noise Removal Method for Motion Picture Using Block Matching

The pulse noise is a noise with a large brightness value change that is slightly correlated with frames. As the technique for removing it, the blotch noise removal method on the movie film is a powerful method, but it is unused before because it needs the huge amount of the arithmetic of the motion estimation. The method was developed to remove the pulse noise that entered the received television image at high accuracy and high speed. In the present study, the motion between frames was calculated approximately by the mean vector, and the search position in which the search center was moved by the approximated value was corrected. Then the search would be executed when the matching level of the search position was low. Moreover, the limitation of the speedup of the noise candidate that limited the object pixel to the pixel that the brightness value is beyond the limits of μ±σ and the technique of making to high accuracy were designed, and the result was evaluated by using the simulation.
