Single Channel Low Noise EEG Amplifier for Biomedical Instrumentation

Electroencephalography (EEG) has been used for a long time as a technique of medical diagnosis and observation of brain anomalies. In several cases, the level of the output biopotential signal is in the order of microvolts and the measurement is easily corrupted by external interference. In this study, the design of a low noise EEG amplifier is presented. The developed biopotential amplifier is composed of a low noise instrumentation amplifier, a band pass filter with a programmable gain amplifier and with a Right Leg Driver (DRL) circuit. Simultaion results have shown an exhibition of a low noise level of about 5 nV/√Hz After analog processing and filtering, the signal is sampled and digitalized by commercial data acquisition card interfaced to a PC. In the other hand, we explain the development of a wireless EEG acquisition system powered by a thermoelectric energy scavenger.
