Low Power Parallel Design for H.264/AVC Intra Prediction

This paper proposes a low power design for H.264/AVC intra prediction based on parallel processing. A mode reduction method is introduced to reduce data dependencies between consecutively executed blocks. The parallel execution cuts down part of data dependency by mode reduction method. The experiments results show that the proposed approach promises the power savings of up to 23%. The design has been implemented in Xilinx Virtex-4 chipset.
