Transient Optical Detection from Space Based on Photodiode

To detect the transient optical with wide dynamic range and feeble amplitude, an integrated scheme of preprocessing circuit is proposed in this paper. A silicon photodiode detector records the intensitytime history of transient optical events, which are proportional to transient optical power. The signal condition circuit will modify the incident optical to the optimized output, which adapts to the input ranges of analog-to-digital converter (ADC). FPGA control the signal condition circuit and ADC. FPGA generate the code to control the multiplexers of the preprocessing circuit on or off, in order to adapt to the different detection mode. Also FPGA will generate the clock signal to drive the ADC with adaptivesampling strategy once the double-peak optical event occurred. The strategy will reduce the requirement of storage and improve the efficiency of processing. The simulation wave for the adaptive-sampling was showed in the paper. The results of the test confirm the feasibility of the strategy. At present, the scheme has been used in a transient optical detection system.
