Multi-scale Fourier Descriptor with Phase Information for Image Retrieval

Fourier descriptor is an important method used in shape analysis and recognition. It mainly does Discrete Fourier Transformation (DFT) with the shape signature of the points on the edge of the object and normalizes to get Fourier descriptor with no phase information. In this paper, we combine the Wavelet transformation and Fourier transformation to get multi-scale Fourier descriptor with phase information and use Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) distance to compare shape similarity. The experiments show the new descriptor is more efficient than the traditional Fourier descriptor in image retrieval.
