A Three-Dimensional Indoor Location Method Based on WLAN and Zigbee

With the rise of location-based services (LBS), location-aware technology had been presented as one of research issues nowadays. Among many indoor location methods, WLAN-based indoor location has become a good research and developing direction for its wide coverage and low-cost. However, traditional research on WLAN-based indoor location focuses on how to improve the accuracy with simulation or experiment completed in a plane region. It is still a challenge for 3D indoor location. This paper aims to develop a high accuracy indoor location system which provides 3D position efficiently. A modified RSSl-based method is used for indoor location in our system. Moreover, an area division method using zigbee technology had been proposed to reduce location servers computing time. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed methods can be successfully applied in LBS for its high accuracy and low computational complexity.
