Comparison of SER Performance between OFDMA and SC-FDMA with Nonlinear AMP

New evolving standards of the mobile communications, such as Long Term Evolution (LTE), WiMax and Advanced LTE are concerned about Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) to solve the problem of multipath propagation. However, critical defeat of OFDMA that mainly degrades its spectral efficiency in the modern wireless channel is large peak to average power ratio (PAPR) which results in robust nonlinear natural of power amplifier (PA). The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) standard group introduced a possible solution called Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA). This multiple access (MA) scheme is based on Discrete Fourier Transformation Spreading (DFT-Spreading) OFDM which spreads the base band modulated signal before the DFT that lead lower PAPR than OFDivIA. In this paper, we focus to distribute general evaluation of both conventional OFDMA and SC-FDMA with Rayleigh fading and user scheduling and important conclusions is provided by this comparison. The simulation results show that interleaved frequency division multiple access (IFDMA) is the best performance when IBO is less than 4dB due to lower PAPR. However, localized frequency division multiple access (LFDMA) shows better performance over 6dB IBO and with BPSK and QPSK. When IBO is more than 6dB and 16QAM, OFDMA has the best performance among three MA scheme.
