Effect of Soil Nailing in Foundation Engineering
Due to large amount of excavation in foundation, stress in soil releases rapidly, which may make the foundation unstable. So it is necessary to assess the stability of foundation and provide the appropriate reinforcement methods to resist the foundation. Soil nailing as a foundation reinforcement technique has been widely applied in geotechnical engineering. Soil nailing make the soil and nail become a compound system which is more stronger than either soil or nail, with low cost and quick construction characteristic. In recent years, rapid advances in computer technology and sustained development have pushed the numerical analysis methods like the fast lagrangian analysis of continua three dimensions (FLAC3D) to the forefront of geotechnical practice. In the present paper, firstly, the double-spring nail elements are built; then a numerical model is founded by FLAC3D, deformation and stress responses are obtained as well as the mechanical response of nail during calculation, whose result reveals the mechanism of nail reinforcement and its load transferring mode.
