Exploring Effects Knowledge Base to Aid Re-creative Design
Technology absorption, assimilation and re-creation can be fulfilled by two steps of reverse engineering and recreation. In the two steps, design knowledge base plays a very important role. The effects knowledge base is a powerful tool in solving technical problems and can inspire designers more effectively for creative design. This paper explores the use of the effects knowledge base to aid recreative design. In the reverse engineering, the effects knowledge base is used to identify the appropriate function concept, solution principle to gain the design intent of the existing product. And then the effects knowledge base is used to facilitate the generation of the alternative design solutions from the viewpoint of function, effect, principle, and structure for re-creation.
