The Empirical Study on Agency problems of GovernmentSponsored R&D Programs
The aims of this study is to verify the existence of agency problem of government sponsored R&D project. This study is to find out whether there is agency cost in government support by applying agency problems to R&D government support. If there is agency cost in government support, component ratio of firms own fund and government subsidy size for business enterprises in total R&D cost in government sponsored R&D project will have a significant (+) effect on technology performance. Companies(970 firms) that received government subsidy in Korea from 2000 to 2009 were selected as a sample for this study. Frequency analysis and multiple regression analysis were used for this study. The result of analysis showed that the correlation coefficient between component ratio of firms own fund and government subsidy size in government sponsored R&D project and technology performance has significant plus sign. The result of analysis meant that there are agency problems in government sponsored R&D system (programs). We think that a study which will examine how much agency problems deteriorate the efficiency of government sponsored R&D system would be necessary in the future.
