Computer Simulation for Pile Drag Load in Foundation of Consolidating Soil
Downdrag develops when a pile is driven through a soil layer which will settle more than the pile. Many methods have been proposed to calculate the downdrag force on single piles, like empirical methods, loadtransfer methods and elastic and elastoplastic methods. But empirical methods and load-transfer methods need simplified assumptions for the geometry and the soil properties, which is not strict according to the real situation. Elastic and elastoplastic methods have been used to investigate the pile-soil system which is more accurate. But much less work has been done on pile downdrag, the behavior of pile subjected to downdrag is primarily influenced by the three-dimensional interaction between the soil and the piles. To obtain detailed information on the behavior, it is necessary to simulate the three dimensional geometry and nonlinear behavior of the soil. In the present paper, a numerical model is founded, deformation and stress responses are obtained as well as the mechanical response of pile during calculation, whose result reveals the mechanism of pile with soil.
