CLASSICAL AND MIXED FINITE PLATE ELEMENTS FOR THE ANALYSIS OF MULTIFIELD PROBLEMS AND SMART LAYERED STRUCTURES
This work deals with refined finite element formulation for multifield problems. Classical approaches based on the Principle of Virtual Displacement are compared to mixed ones which are based on the Reissner Mixed Variational Theorem. Both layer-wise and equivalent single layer kinematic descriptions are considered. The numerical implementation is performed by referring to the condensed notation of the Carrera Unified Formulation. The results show thatrefined plate models are required in order to compute the accurate response in the case of thermo-mechanical and electromechanical structural problems.
