AN ASSEMBLED FINITE SEGMENT ELEMENT FOR REINFORCED CONCRETE BOX GIRDERS

An efficient finite segment element for the analysis of reinforced concrete box girder is presented in this paper. Based on the distribution of the steel bar in the concrete box girder, the steel bars are equivalent as an inner and an outer steel box girder. The reinforced concrete box girder is regarded as a composite structure of a concrete and two steel box girders. In addiction.every box girder is also regarded as an assembled structure of the upper plate, the webs and the lower plate. The plates and the webs are treated as sub elements. A spatial displacement field is constructed for the sub elements. Thus the shear lag effect is taken into consideration in constructing displacement field. An assembled finite segment of box girder is composed by concrete and steel sub elements through the deformation coordination. The major advantage of the proposed approach,in comparison with the finite element method,is that it can take into account the stiffness of the steel bar and simplify a three dimensional structure into a one dimensional structure for structural analysis, which results in significant saving in computational efforts.
