THE ANALYSIS OF FUNCTIONALLY GRADED FRAMES
The analysis of functionally graded frames is investigated. Youngs moduli of members vary in the thickness direction according to a power law. The theoretical foundation such as the governing equations for the displacements, the location of the neutral axis of a flexural member is developed by the basis of Timoshenko beam theory. The stiffness matrix of a functionally graded flexural member is established to present the matrix analysis of a functionally graded frame (FGF). It is found that the main distinguish of the analysis between a FGF and a homogeneous one is the establishment of their member stiffness matrices because the difference of their axial as well as bending rigidities that strongly depend their material properties, which in turn influence the location of the neutral axis about which their bending rigidities are determined.
