Implementation of DRM Controller Based on File Filter Driver
Digital rights management (DRM) is developed in recent years, and DRM controller is an important component of DRM. Most of the existing DRM controllers are embedded in user applications. Due to many user applications do not provide an interface to embed DRM controller, the development of DRM technologies has been restricted to a great extent. File filter driver can add new functions without changing the device driver and user applications, so users are not aware of new features have been added in his computer system. In this paper, the basic principles of digital rights management and file filter driver are introduced, and then a scheme for DRM controller based on file filter driver is proposed. Because the DRM controller is implemented as a file filter driver, it captures the I/O request packets which are sent to file system. The DRM controller realizes the file access control by modifying the I/O request processing functions. This scheme implements digital content copyright protection without changing the existing user applications. With the advantage of generality, the scheme will effective promote the development of DRM technologies.
