Rendering Research of Variance Shadow Map by Gaussian Filter
Variance shadow map (VSM) algorithm is one of shadow rendering techniques based on probability, which can reduce the aliasing fault in the traditional shadow map algorithm. However, VSM by linear filter leads to unclear shadow silhouette. We propose a VSM algorithm based on Gaussian filter in this paper, which can effectively keep the clear silhouette of the shadow, and can be accelerated by GPU hardware easily. Experiment results show that our method can generate satisfying smooth shadows.
