Application of Fractional Differential Approach to Sobel Edge-detecting Operator

Fractional differential approach has the capability of enhancing textural features of two-dimensional digital images, and Sobel is one of the best edge detection algorithms. However, it will detect some false edges, making the edges detected thick. Consequently, it is easy to lose some textural information, such as the corner edge of one image. This paper mainly discusses how to use the advantages of fractional differential method to improve the shortcomings of Sobel. And then, it puts forward a new method based on combination fractional differential and Sobel operator. Experiments show that the textural detail enhancing, more clear but not indistinct. So it gets better result than Sobel operator for rich-grained digital images.
