MPSO-Based PID Controllers Parameters Optimum Tuning

In the control engineering field, PID Parameters optimization is an important issue. PSO which is a powerful stochastic evolutionary algorithm used to find the global optimum solution in search space has been utilized with success to solve the PID parameters optimization problem. This paper proposes to enhance the searching capability of PSO for the optimal PID parameters using a Multiple Particle Swarm Optimization (MPSO). The method puts together a number of swarms containing particles that exchange information about the best position in order to build a solution to the considered problem. Comparing with standard PSO-PID controller, the simulation result shows that the proposed approach performs an efficient search for PID controller parameters. Moreover, the proposed controller is more efficient in improving the step response characteristics.
