INCREASING THROUGHPUT USING DIRECTIONAL ANTENNAS IN WIRELESS AD HOC NETWORKS
This paper proposes a new method to be part of MAC (Medium Access Control) protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional antennas. This Method exploits the directional transmission and sensing capabilities of the directional antennas increasing throughput. Briefly: The present work is about processing the data packets in the queue ready for transmission in other directions when the data packet in the front of the queue to be transmitted finds channel busy in its direction. This method is independent of mechanisms used for sensing and transmission by a MAC protocol for directional antennas thus can be part of any MAC protocol using directional antennas with out much change in the protocol or method.
