Application-Aware Online Testing for Many-Core SoC
As the many-core system-on-chip becomes the predominant architecture in safety-critical applications, online testing will be required to ensure availability and reliability of these systems. To be accepted as a feasible solution, any online testing technique must satisfy time and power constraints while not interfering with concurrently running safety-critical applications. Previous research has not considered the effect of application interference during online test delivery, which can lead to increased application execution time and possible deadline misses - an unacceptable condition in safety-critical, hard realtime systems. In this paper, we propose and analyze two complementary methods of minimizing online testing interference with safety-critical applications. We show that test delivery blocking can eliminate interference at the cost of increased testing time, while test redundancy can reduce interference by 47% while only increasing test delivery time by 15% on average.
