SEISMIC RESPONSE ANALYSIS FOR UHVDC AIR TYPE SMOOTHING REACTORS

Air-type smoothing reactor is one of the essential equipments of ultra high voltage direct current (UHVDC) power transmission grids. Currently, for the seismic design of smoothing reactors there are not unified criterions among the corresponding codes. Most codes recommend two analyzing methods,i.e. response spectrum analysis and time-history analysis, for the latter either ground motion acceleration waves or five sine beats at resonant frequency are employed as seismic input. In the paper,an ANSYS model of a real UHVDC air type smoothing reactor is established and its seismic behaviour analyzed using different ground motion accelerations and five sine beats at resonant frequency. The influence of different seismic inputs on the seismic response of such reactors is discussed, and great differences in seismic stresses are found between the five sine beats and the other seismic inputs showing that the five sine beats input is too conservative. Finally, based on the analyses suggestions to seismic design of such reactors are put forward.
