ENERGY DISSIPATION AT EXTERNAL DIAPHRAGM CONNECTION OF 3D STEEL FRAMES USED CHS COLUMN AND H-SHAPED BEAM UNDER CYCLIC LOADING
The objective of this paper is to investigate the hysteretic behaviour of external diaphragm connection (EDC) of circular hollow section column and wide flange beams (CHSC-WFB) subassembly frame. The studies are based on finite element models, which have been used in previous experiential study. Base on the force-displacement curve, the hysteretic behaviour has been evaluated not only for the strength but also for the ductility. For the energy dissipation of subassembly frame is by the deformation of the beam part, column part, panel zone part and connection,an energy dissipation balance concept of all of the parts also study in this paper. The result shows that the hysteretic behaviour of the subassembly frame can be enhanced through increase the height of external diaphragm. The deformation of the panel zone plus the local deformation of diaphragm is over than 40% of the total deformation if an appropriate diaphragm height be used.
