RESEARCH ON RELATIONS BETWEEN BEHAVIOUR AND CONSTRUCTION PARAMETERS OF SEMI-RIGID CONNECTIONS
The extended end plate connections, which is one of the commonly used type of beam-to-column semi-rigid connections of framed steel structures,is studied here. The nonlinear finite element method is used to analyze the behavior of the extended end plate connections under static load. In the numerical model, the contact problems are considered and the contact between end plate of the beam and column flange, bolt nuts and neighborhood plates, bolt shanks and bolt holes are simulated well. After verification of the results of ANSYS finite element analysis on the experimental results,17 species of 5 series are further simulated through changing parameters of connection details. According to the simulation results, the initial stiffness formula which is presented in existing paper is modified, and then effect of the major parameters such as depth of the end plate, thickness of flange of the column, height of beam, thickness of flange of the beam and pitch of bolts on the initial stiffness are discussed. It is concluded that correlation of thickness of end plate and thickness of flange of column is evident for effect of the initial stiffness of connection, which show that the initial stiffness of the connection will increase more with one of the two parameters mentioned above while both of them are bigger, but the initial stiffness does not increase while both of them are smaller.
