MODEL UPDATING USING SUBSTRUCTURE. MODAL DATA
In vibration-based model updating, the finite element model is iteratively modified to ensure its vibration properties reproduce the measured counterparts in an optimal way. Updating the finite element model of a large-scale structure is very expensive in terms of computation time and memory. The substructuring method is a promising solution for reducing the computational load in coping with large-scale model. In this paper,a substructural flexibility matrix is extracted from the modal data measured on the global structure under the constraints of force compatibility and displacement compatibility. As a result, the focused substructure is treated as an independent structure to be updated directly using a common model updating method, thus accelerating the conventional optimization process. The effectiveness of the method in model updating and damage identification is demonstrated through its application to a laboratory-tested frame structure.
