COMPARATIVE SHAKING TABLE MODEL TESTS ON THE SOIL-PILE-STRUCTURE INTERACTION SYSTEM IN VARIOUS LIQUEFIABLE SOILS

Through comparing the two shaking table model tests on SSI (soil structure interaction),the effects of various liquefiable soils on SSI systems were studied. The superstructures (frame structure with 12 layers) and foundations (3×3 pile groups) were almost the same in the two 1:10 model tests-PS10 test and PS10L test. But the soils in these two tests were different. In PS10 test the soils had three layers, from top to bottom, they were silty clay, sandy silt, sandy soil respectively. And there had only two layers in the PS10L test, clay and sandy soil. From the results of the two shaking table model tests, conclusions could be drawn as follows. Under the same earthquake excitation, the saturated sandy soil was much more liable to liquefy than clayey silt. The dynamic characteristics, response of superstructure, interaction effect between soils and piles, and the change law of pore water pressure of the two SSI systems were different, although the variation law of these behavior was similar. After the soil had liquefied, its stiffness descended. It was the reason why the seismic response of the superstructure becomed smaller. The influences of liquefaction on the superstructure and pile could not be neglected. The change law of pore water pressure was also generalized. Along with the addition of the times of excitation, the pore water pressure in soil become bigger.
