EXPERIMENTAL AND THEORETICAL INVESTIGATIONS OF FLEXURAL BEHAVIOR OF NEW TYPE PRESTRESSED CONCRETE PIPE PILE WITH COMPOUND UNPRESTRESSED REINFORCEMENT

This paper presents the concept of a new type Unprestressed Reinforcement Compounded Prestressed Concrete Pipe Pile (URC-PCPP). In the URC-PCPP,in order to increase the bending capacity and ductility, some unprestressed HRB400 steel bars are added to the prestressed concrete pipe pile, forming horizontal loading concrete compound sections. Five full scale URC-PCPPs and two full scale common prestressed concrete pipe piles, which were used for comparison, were designed and fabricated. The standard bending tests on the specimens were carried out. The test results show that the URC-PCPPs possess good flexure properties. Based on the data from the tests and the current concrete code, the formulas for the crack moment were suggested and the design equations of flexural capacity for the URC-PCPPs as well as the formulas of ultimate moment for the factory checkout of the pipe piles were derived. The numerical results agree well with the test data, satisfying to the design requirement of the pipe pile. The results provide a theoretical basis for the compilation of standard drawings of the URC-PCPPs.
