SIMPLIFIED NUMERICAL METHOD FOR DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF RC COLUMNS UNDER BLAST LOADING

With the rapid development of computer technology and advancement of numerical techniques, numerical simulation becomes an important tool for reliable predication of dynamic response and damage of structural components or building structures under blast loading. However, the computer codes available for dynamic analyses are quite complex. Considerable experience with both the codes and the physical problems they are intended to solve is vital. Both the unreasonable establishment of the numerical model and the usage of coarser mesh size could lead to disagreement between computations and experience. And the analysis is normally very time consuming. In this paper,a simplified numerical method for dynamic analysis of RC columns under blast loading is proposed. It uses the Hughes-Liu beam elements and fiber-based section integration rule for discrete modelling of the concrete and longitudinal steel bars through defining different group of integration points with different material properties. The confinement of steel hoops on core concrete could be also considered by using Kent-Park model for derivation of confined concrete material for corresponding integration points. This simplified method is intended to increase the efficiency of numerical based dynamic analyses of RC columns under blast loading.
